Bill Bellis was born on August 25, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. He began his broadcasting career while still in high school, working as a disc jockey for a local radio station. After graduation, he attended Northern Illinois University, where he majored in communications.
Bellis’s first television job was as a weatherman for WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois. He then worked as a general assignment reporter for WLS-TV in Chicago. In 1980, he joined Fox 32 News (then known as WFLD-TV) as a weekend sports anchor and reporter.
Bellis became the newsanchor for Fox 32 News’ weekday editions in 1982. He held that position for nearly 20 years, until his sudden departure from the station in 2001. The reason for his departure has never been made public; however, it is rumored that he was fired after making an on-air comment that offended some viewers.
After leaving Fox 32 News, Bellis took a position as a news anchor for WBBM-TV in Chicago. He left that station after only a few months, and has not worked in television since.
