In 2003, Smith moved to Tampa, Florida, where she became a reporter for WBBH-TV, an NBC affiliate. In 2004, she moved to Austin, Texas to work as a reporter and fill-in anchor for KVUE-TV. In October 2005, Smith relocated to Dallas to join Fox News as a correspondent covering breaking news stories.
